Two years in, and still finding new things to love about circus.
That's Irene in a nutshell. She joined the Roundabout community about two years ago. Starting with aerials as her gateway obsession. Since then, she's tried new skills, come to all the community events, made her own props, shared her journey on Band, and cheered on the people around her.
Irene is a ray of sunshine, rainbows and pure joyful self-expression. We love having her and her family visit us at various events around the Central Coast as she fully embraces community spirit. You will spot her in fabulous funky shoes, vibrant outfits and a smile to match.
What we love about Irene is that she is not only creative and community minded, she is open to giving any challenge a go and has a positive attitude about trying new things outside her comfort zone. Like many adults, she was first drawn to circus by the aerials and shared her journey and her wins. And like many adults and kids alike, discovered that once you are in the circus it is never just one thing! There is always so much more to learn and to experience. She is now focusing on flow arts and fire spinning but has also shared the acro she does with her young son and recently tried the walking globe at our open day. Irene embodies lifelong learning and growth mindset!
And, she makes her own props from scratch!
Irene decided to get creative and build her own bubble poi; because who doesn't want to spin bubbles once the kids go to sleep? Her bubble pois are homemade, combining colourful dreamcatchers with every mums favourite baby ball, and we're so grateful that she shares the whole journey on BAND with everyone following along and get inspired.
Her response when she first tested her bubble pois? "Feeling excited... first time for a Bubble test with my very own homemade bubble pois."
Did you know Circus Parkrunning was a thing?!?
Yes, that's exactly what it sounds like. Irene adds her circus flair to her Saturday morning, 5km — pram, high kicks, and all. Little did she know, that the co-founders of Roundabout actually were on the organising team for the first Central Coast Parkrun at Mt Penang. There have been some joggling and hula hoop antics at local Parkruns in the past. When you love community - you find it everywhere you need it.
The fire bubble - whoa, now that's cool
It sounds like an impossible juxtaposition - but you know what we think about possibilities. Check out this video of Ray lighting up some fire bubbles on Irene's hand. You can see the absolute awe and wonder on her face. No wonder she loves bubbles!
Roundabout Coach, Ray, teaching Irene how to work with fire and bubbles.
We really are grateful for the joy and delight Irene shares with us all. And her regular updates in our community socials are a genuine window into someone who has made circus a part of their everyday life.
Irene, you make the world a brighter place through just being yourself and embracing every opportunity and sharing your passions. Thank you for being a part of Roundabout Circus. We're so happy that you found your way to our community. \- Rachel and Andy
